Intro

An excursion to the grottoes and the prehistoric park of Réclère is nearly like Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth". The large limestone cave with stalactites and stalagmites gives the excursion the necessary atmosphere and the life-sized dinosaurs in the park are the climax of a fascinating trip through time.

The grottoes of Réclère in Canton Jura were discovered towards the end of the 19th century, and were opened to the public soon afterwards. A guided 1.5 kilometer long circular tour with over 500 steps on a staircase takes the visitor past stalactites and stalagmites to the huge hall, to stalagmites that are over 15 meters high and an enigmatic stone formation that seems to depict a mysterious face in profile.

The Préhisto-Park is right next to the grottoes. Visitors can hike along a two kilometer long forest trail with over 40 life-size replicas of dinosaurs and other animals and learn about evolution: ranging from the first amphibians to the dinosaurs and up to the first mammals.
