Intro
Bern's Old Town on the Aare peninsula was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1983. The Swiss capital is a magnificent example of mediaeval European urban architecture, mellowed by an enchantingly relaxed pace of life.
City tour “Eating out in old Bern”
Rosina, Sinner, a Bern patrician, takes the group on a culinary journey through the city of Bern of yesteryear. She goes on a shopping trip. Meat, bread and spices are on her list. On the way to the market, butcher and baker, she reveals a recipe or two and shares stories about eating and drinking habits in times past. In Zunfthaus zu Metzgern – which is perhaps the oldest restaurant in Bern – Rosina Sinner then asks guests to take a seat and enjoy the dishes from way back when.
City tour
The "Old Town Stroll" through the Swiss capital takes in the late-Gothic Minster, the Federal Parliament, the Cage Tower and the famous Zytglogge clock tower, Bern's oldest city gate dating from the 13th century.
As guests stroll through the unique and historic Old Town on this 90-minute tour, they hear a summary of facts as well as tales both cheerful and serious about past and present.
