Guided tour through the energy center Forsthaus
Overview
Intro
As a highly efficient overall system, the Forsthaus energy center converts waste, regional wood and natural gas into electricity, steam and district heating. It plays a major role in ensuring that Energie Wasser Bern implements the decision of the Bernese electorate and can phase out nuclear energy by 2039.
In around 1.5 hours, a guide will lead you through the Forsthaus energy center. At the interactive city model in the new visitor room, you will also learn how we are creating the energy turnaround together.
The plant, which resembles a giant ship made of concrete, is a Swiss first: the waste-to-energy plant (MWIP) is combined with a wood-fired power plant (CHP) and a gas-and-steam combined cycle power plant (CCPP). Thanks to this combination, the entire plant can be operated flexibly. Depending on the season and customer demand, Energie Wasser Bern can produce more district heating or more electricity from waste, wood and natural gas.
The exciting tour can be rounded off with an aperitif.
