Intro

Picture yourself hand-in-hand, stretching a self-made rope bridge over the glacier gorge in Grindelwald before putting it to the test.

Do you enjoy working towards a common goal? Fancy the idea of lending a hand to build a bridge over a glacier gorge in Grindelwald near Interlaken with maximum drop of 100m and then walking across it? If so, our “rope bridge building” offer is perfect for you.
Access to the glacier gorge of the Lower Grindelwald Glacier is either on foot or by local bus. We immediately set off to admire the glacier gorge from above, involving a short hike. Under the expert instruction of our IFMGA mountain guides, you will make a bridge from individual ropes before pitching together to stretch the rope across the gorge. But will the bridge hold? The adrenaline will be surging. After all, it takes a fair amount of courage to cross a gorge on a self-built bridge.

We ensure sustainability and environmental protection by using environmentally friendly materials and construction methods, providing insights into the fragility of the environment and raising awareness of the alpine glacier region and climate change. We also emphasise the economic benefits of tourism for the region and cooperate with local partners.
Once the hard work is done, you can enjoy a drink from your backpack and chat about your heroic exploits. Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the glacier gorge. Here, you can see a beautiful contrast between the rock faces shooting up far into the sky from below and the glacial wells that have evolved over the centuries.

Still hungry for more mountaineering adventures? Have you always fancied climbing a vertical rock face? Then an introduction to rock climbing or a thrilling opportunity to abseil over the rock face of the glacier gorge could round off your rope bridge building experience perfectly.

Hopefully the impressive natural structure of the glacier gorge will outlive us all. However, the Lower Grindelwald Glacier, which has receded dramatically from the gorge, needs our help before it disappears completely. A visit to the glacier gorge not only raises awareness of the glacial region, but the emotions involved in building the rope bridges can be an invaluable psychological tool. Sustainability always has its benefits.
