Visit to Sbrinz cheese cellar
Overview
Intro
In the Lucerne district of St. Karli, you are invited to the Sbrinz cheese cellar to delve into the world of Sbrinz AOP.
Sbrinz AOP cheese is aromatic and extra hard. It is produced at selected valley and Alpine cheese dairies using raw milk, rennet and salt. Since 2012, the extra-hard cheese has carried the AOP seal of quality. The fine cheeses are stored almost exclusively in Sbrinz’s maturing facility located in the cellars of Emmi Schweiz AG. Part of the impressive cheese cellar lies beneath the River Reuss and can hold up to 60,000 wheels of Sbrinz AOP cheese. All cheese lovers will be astounded by the sheer quantity of cheese awaiting them in the cellar!
During the tour, you’ll visit the Sbrinz maturing cellar and learn exciting facts about the origin, name, production and history of the cheese. At the end of the tour, you’ll have the chance to taste the delicious cheese. The tour, including an aperitif, lasts around one hour.
