Vevey is situated in the southwest of Switzerland, in the French-speaking part of the country. Its location on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) with a view of the Alps and the mild climate make the town a popular destination. Because of the mix of picturesque scenery and cultural riches, Vevey is often referred to as the “pearl of the Swiss Riviera”.

Your journey of discovery begins on the idyllic lakeside promenade, past the statue of Charlie Chaplin. You’ll stroll through the old town with its alleyways, historic buildings and boutiques and finally make a stop at the Grande Place (market square). A market is held here on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Another sightseeing attraction in Vevey: the Alimentarium, a unique museum dedicated entirely to nutrition.

Chaplin’s World and Vevey’s connection to Charlie Chaplin

It was in Vevey that one of the most well-known comedians and actors – Charlie Chaplin – spent the last few years of his life. At the Chaplin’s World museum, you’ll get a glimpse into the life and work of the silent film icon. The statue of Charlie Chaplin on the lakeside promenade also commemorates the artist.

The Lavaux vineyards near Vevey

Vevey is surrounded by the Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site. While on an excursion along the wine terraces, you’ll not only marvel at the spectacular views, but you’ll also have the opportunity to sample wine and learn interesting facts about viticulture, wine cellars and grape varieties.

Around Vevey

Not far from Vevey is Chillon Castle (Château de Chillon). The castle is a top excursion destination in Switzerland. And it goes without saying that it is well worth stopping off in Montreux on the way there. Looking for altitude and views? You’ll find just that on Mont-Pèlerin and its “Plein Ciel” observation tower. You can also take the Rochers-de-Naye cogwheel train from Vevey to the Rochers-de-Naye. A spectacular panorama awaits!
