Verena Minster
Overview
Intro
The minster is one of Canton Aargau’s most beautiful churches. It is the core of the medieval pilgrimage destination and erstwhile marketplace, Bad Zurzach.
The church was built over the grave of Saint Verena in a Roman cemetery. The former monastery church today consists of an Early Romanesque nave (built around 1000 AD) and the Gothic choir spire, consecrated in 1347. Verena Cathedral has served as a Catholic parish church since the closing of the monastery in the year 1876. Guided tours regularly take place in the Verena Minster.
