Intro

“On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” is the most Swiss of all the James Bond movies as it is mainly set in the Bernese Oberland. The most memorable location of the 1969 movie was the world’s first revolving restaurant which, since then, has kept the film name “Piz Gloria”.

Information

Description

Ambience:
Piz Gloria was the villain’s, Blofeld, mountain-top hideout in Ian Fleming’s novel on which the Bond movie was based. Not much has changed in the still futuristic-looking building. The staffed restaurant, continuously frequented by tourists from all over the world, rotates around its own axis in 45 minutes, gliding past more than 200 mountain peaks – an experience you won’t forget in a hurry, and which is also very suitable for families with children. By the way, since 2013, the lower floor of the Piz Gloria has been hosting the Bond World with tongue-in-cheek displays about the making of the movie.

Location:
Located at the peak of the 2,970 metres high Schilthorn.
Cuisine:
Better than expected on these heights: good cheese and dried meat platters, baguette sandwiches, buffet with salads and soups, pork escalope with chips and vegetables, chicken breast with creamy curry sauce and Basmati rice, veal strips with creamy mushroom sauce and Rösti, beef steak with herb butter and potato gratin, Hörnli pasta bake with minced meat and cheese, varieties of spaghetti dishes, cheese on toast with fried egg, Rösti with smoked salmon and sour cream. House speciality: 007 burger with chips (choice of beef or chicken burger, salmon or vegetable schnitzel). In addition, every day until 2pm, James Bond brunch (CHF 35.-).
