Canoeing on the Ticino
Overview
Intro
The Ticino is one of the most popular canoeing rivers in the canton of the same name. On a leisurely 8km river tour from Cresciano to Arbedo, visitors can see the landscape at its most beautiful and diverse – rocks, chestnut forests, palm trees and sunny beaches.
Enthusiasts will find demanding whitewaters in the upper reaches of the Ticino – but from Biasca the river flows more gently until Lake Maggiore. The river tours offered here run from Cresciano to Arbedo and towards Bellinzona – a route lined with forests and sandbanks where trippers can take a break. It's often warm enough here to enjoy a cooling dip in the river. There are some small rapids in Arbedo to get the waters foaming. On arrival in Bellinzona, kayakers are greeted by the sight of the city's impressive castles.
As there are no real rapids on this stretch of the river, the tour is also suitable for whitewater novices, hobbyists and families with children (of 7 and over) or school and youth groups. Travel down the river on stable, inflatable two-seater canoes, instructed and accompanied by professional guides. Rafting tours for groups can also be booked between May and September.
