Château de Grandson
Overview
Intro
This medieval castle (11th to 14th century) occupying a commanding position over Lake Neuchâtel is home to an extraordinary collection of weapons and armour, as well as models of the castle and of the celebrated Battle of Grandson (1476), in which Swiss soldiers defeated the army of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy.
Wedding
At the Château de Grandson, wedding ceremonies are held in the Grand Salon des Appartements Privés. A dream setting that can host one hundred guests, with the option of a drinks reception and a meal at the château.
There is a medieval fortress dating back to between the 11th and 14th centuries.This medieval fortress has been well-maintained and is in fantastic condition. It houses permanent exhibitions where arms, models of the castle and historical details of the famous battle of Grandson in 1476 are displayed.
An absolute must-see: the Armoury and its impressive suits of armour, the Knights’ Hall with its Renaissance stalls, the Banqueting Hall, the dungeons, the torture chamber, the Renaissance bedchamber, not forgetting the 150-metre-long wall walk.
Information
Major development projects are currently underway with historical discoveries of great importance being made at the same time. Some items have been removed from their display cases for conservation and preservation during the works in the castle precincts. The recent work done in the castle has revealed some wonderful surprises. Painted wall decorations have been discovered in the castle.
