L’Isle Palace
Overview
Intro
Versailles in miniature: this magnificent palace was built in 1696 by Charles de Chandieu, an officer in the French army, in the French classical style. You’ll see families of ducks enjoying themselves on the pond.
The La Venoge river irrigates the castle’s beautiful French-style gardens and creates a pool bordered by two tree-lined alleys. This former residence was originally inhabited by the Chandieu family until the end of the 18th century. During the 19th century, François Louis Roulet de Neuchâtel first resided here, after which it was passed on to Cornaz de Montet Cudrefin through marriage.
In 1876, the municipality of L‘Isle bought the castle and restored it. Today, the building houses shared spaces, apartments and school classes. The building has been a protected monument since 1941.
