Winston Churchill's Land Rover – in the Emil Frey Classic Car Museum
Overview
Intro
About 60 vintage and classic cars are on show in this stylishly restored former textile factory. Vehicles spanning 8 decades include Churchill's custom model – without a roof, but with extra floor heating.
If your heart beats faster when you see a vintage car, a visit to the Classic Car Museum in Safenwil is for you. The car enthusiasts of Emil Frey AG, established in 1924 and instrumental in the motorisation of Switzerland to this day, began to collect historically interesting vehicles with the goal to cultivate the valuable cultural objects on four wheels and preserve them for future generations. Sir Winston Churchill's Series 1 Land Rover built in 1954 is on show in Safenwil, lovingly restored and now in roadworthy condition. The extensive restoration is documented on film in the museum.
The collectors cars from the post-war era and up to the 1980s are distributed over an exhibition area of 1500 m2. There are design icons, special models, rare items and modern classics, such as a Jaguar E-Type, a Triumph Dolomite Sprint, an Aston Martin DBS Mk III and a Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo.
Guided tours can be booked with the admission fee. A café bar with a terrace is available before or after visiting the museum. Our shop sells models of the cars on exhibit, selected books about cars and exclusive apparel.
Call in advance to book a guided tour for up to 20 individuals. The guide will talk about the history of the various vehicles in the museum. He is also available to answer your questions.
