Sustainability
Environmentally friendly mobility
Guests in Flims Laax spend most of their time travelling either on foot or by bike - probably the most sustainable transport option. However, those who need more momentum on the way up will also find a well-developed e-bike trail network in Flims Laax, including charging stations, and bikes can be hired on site. The slow traffic project of various stakeholders in the destination has improved cycle paths, for example, thus contributing to road safety. The infrastructure for electric cars is also well developed. In cooperation with Flims Electric, there are designated parking spaces with charging stations throughout the destination. This means you can leave your car parked for a while. A shuttle bus runs throughout the destination according to a regular timetable and can be used free of charge with the guest card and by locals.
The destination is also constantly investing in the infrastructure on the mountain. For example, the first section of the FlemXpress with its revolutionary operating concept was put into operation in the 2023/24 season. It will be fully realised by summer 2025, offering an ideal introduction to the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona World Heritage region. The railway avoids empty runs and requires less energy and entertainment at wear points.
Stakeholders actively implement measures
Sustainability is an important topic for tourism destinations - including the destination Flims Laax and its service providers in the destination, who are actively and ambitiously implementing various measures. The Weisse Arena Gruppe went public with the vision of becoming the world's first self-sufficient ski resort. An ambitious feat that is already paying off: energy consumption has been reduced by 15 per cent. The Weisse Arena Group's Greenstyle environmental and energy concept has also been in place since 2010. To implement the measures, all stakeholders in the destination need to be involved in the developments and want to make their own progress. For example, rangers and geoguides are also in use of the Rhine Gorge. These ranger services play a crucial role in PR and nature protection and raise awareness among visitors.
Promoting sustainability in the destination
The Greenstyle Foundation is a non-profit organisation that arose from the collaboration between the Weisse Arena Gruppe and other businesses and committed people from the Flims Laax region and institutionalises sustainability efforts. The aim of the foundation is to preserve and protect the unique environment in Flims Laax.
