Route to the origins of Switzerland
Intro
Three days travelling right across the region in the heart of Switzerland. Central Switzerland combines fabled panoramic views, magnificent hotels, top-class event locations and a picturesque metropolis. The city of Lucerne is the start and finish point of the route through unspoilt Switzerland. The route is divided into 3 stages of one day each, with fascinating culinary highlights, high quality destinations for day-trips and charming hotels.
Day 1
Start in Lucerne – Hergiswil – Sarnen – Glaubenberg mountain pass – Entlebuch – Schüpfheim – Sörenberg – Glaubenbiel mountain pass – Giswil – Sarnen – Stans – Ächerli mountain pass
The Entlebuch region is also known as Lucerne’s “Wild West”. The section from Lucerne to Stans offers a number of highlights, creating authentic experiences for you to enjoy. The Entlebuch is part of the only biosphere reserve in Switzerland designated by UNESCO in 2001. Stans is the location of the only Swiss company to develop, build and sell aircraft on all five continents: Pilatus Flugzeugwerke AG. A free tour of Pilatus Flugzeugwerke AG, booked in advance, is definitely recommended.
Day 2
Start in Stans – Lucerne – Emmen (South) – Wohlhusen – Entlebuch – Escholzmatt – Trubschachen – Schallenberg mountain pass – Steffisburg – Spiez – Interlaken – Meiringen – Innertkirchen – Susten mountain pass.
The journey from the picturesque Stans heading for Emmen will take you to Wohlhusen, the gateway to the Lucerne Hinterland.
Day 3
Start at the Susten mountainpass – Erstfeld – Altdorf – Schwyz – Ibergregg mountain pass – Einsiedeln-Etzel mountain pass – Lucerne
The Gotthard region, also known as the water reservoir of the Alps, is reached from the Grimsel mountain pass via the impressive road along the Furka mountain pass. The region is the source of many of Europe’s great rivers: the Rhine, Reuss, Rhone and Ticino. Andermatt is the centrepiece of the valley and lies at the crossroads of the routes across Switzerland’s passes from North to South and East to West.
The next highlight on the route through unspoilt Switzerland is Altdorf and the home of the national hero William Tell, with his Museum in Bürglen. In Schwyz, in the heart of Switzerland, lies the gateway to the Muota valley, the home of the famous weather prophets. After the Ibergeregg Pass, the beautiful Baroque structure of the Einsiedeln Abbey is the perfect place for a stop. With its attractive location by the lake, Lucerne is a splendid city for ending your journey through unspoilt Switzerland. A concert in the Art and Cultural Centre Lucerne (KKL) or a visit to Switzerland’s most popular museum, the Swiss Museum of Transport is recommended. A cruise on one of the historic steam ships on Lake Lucerne is a perfect way to round off your trip.
