Inleiding
Discover the medicinal plants in our region as part of a small group on a full-day excursion, and learn how to recognise, pick and prepare them in a number of different formulations. Enjoy the activities on this excursion while marvelling at nature’s gifts to us!
Our region’s wild plants boast many beneficial properties that have long been recognised by our ancestors. Almost 800 plants have been used in Switzerland throughout its history for their medicinal properties, such as meadowsweet – for helping to bring down or eliminate fevers, healing plantain, anti-allergy nettles, and firs – for bringing relief to chest ailments. The wide range of ways that they can be used and the sheer number of parts of the body that they can treat mean that they can regularly play a useful role in treating us and alleviating any illnesses that we may have. But in order to enjoy these benefits, you need to know how to recognise them and how to use them. Come and discover this fascinating activity underpinned by a simple approach known as herbalism. Herbalists can recognise medicinal plants and know how to use them to provide treatment for themselves and for their families.
Discover the joys of homemade herbal remedies!
This day-long excursion will be divided into two parts. In the morning, we’ll set off to discover the medicinal plants of the Pleiades region, in their natural habitat. We’ll discuss their families, their habitats and how they are used. You’ll learn some basic characteristics so that you can find them on your own in the future, as well as the principles of picking plants in a way that does not damage the surrounding natural environment.
We’ll have a picnic at our chalet, right in the heart of the countryside. We’ll be spending the afternoon here too, either on the terrace if the weather is good or in the workshop if it is raining. We’ll use dried or fresh plants to put together a number of medicinal formulations.
At the workshop, attendees will learn to make the following:
- An oil macerate (using an alcohol-based liquid)
- Discover a quick and more effective technique than the traditional approach. A soothing ointment
- The macerate will then be used to make an ointment for treating minor wounds and burns
- A medicinal syrup
Syrups are a key way of locking in the benefits of medicinal plants. You’ll learn how to make sure that they’re active, tasty and keep well.
You’ll go home with a bottle of each of your formulations. These formulations use classic recipes, and you can easily reproduce them with other plants (which have either been picked or purchased at a herbalist’s shop) in order to achieve other effects based on your needs.
