Ufnau Island long
Overzicht
Inleiding
The first written testimony about the island can be found in a document dating back to 741. Excavations over 50 years ago brought to light the foundation walls of a heathen temple. Find out about Ufnau Island's secrets. Rare plants and a rich, colourful bird life will delight visitors on the quiet paths.
Everyone knows Ufnau by sight. Switzerland’s largest island is, after all, visible to anyone travelling along the Seedamm causeway and bridge as well as from the shore.
This tour is a chance to really explore and discover this beautiful patch of earth, which is a protected area and can only be reached by boat.
While walking over the island, owned by Einsiedeln Abbey since the year 965, visitors will come across many rare plants, see countless birds and follow in the footsteps of those who have been drawn to Ufnau for centuries. The Romans built a temple here, saints have come here to pray, and celebrities from around the world have stayed on this island.
What’s more: visitors can also enjoy a tour of the island’s St. Peter and Paul Church for an additional fee of CHF 110. This money goes entirely to the parish office of Freienbach for the maintenance of the church.
