Inleiding

Sedert september 2015 is het LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura) een indrukwekkend podium voor eigentijdse creaties uit Zuid-Zwitserland. Het bouwwerk van architect Ivano Gianola uit Tessin biedt bezoekers kunst op 2500 vierkante meter en een moderne theater- en concertzaal met 1000 zitplaatsen.

The LAC was created to be a gathering place for people to come together, a site intended to attract and draw in the public. That is why every room has been carefully designed to the highest standards of functionality in a visually stunning ambience. Our event spaces, both private and corporate, are also an expression of this philosophy. Not isolated units in a distinct complex , they are organic parts of the building’s breathtaking architecture, distributed on all the floors. They can be either combined or subdivided to meet a variety of needs, both in terms of capacity and style: either a small, secluded room or the grand sweep of the theatre, either a spare, minimalist setting or the warm, thrilling harmony of a Renaissance cloister. Het nieuwe LAC is niet over het hoofd te zien: het markante bouwwerk van plaatselijke architect Ivano Gianola staat, op slechts een steenworp van het meer, aan de Piazza Berardino Luini en vormt een interessant contrast met het naastgelegen prominente gebouw uit de 16e eeuw, de kerk Santa Maria degli Angioli. Achter de weelderige glaspuien vinden de culturele creaties van Zuid-Zwitserland alle ruimte.

2500 m2 tentoonstellingsruimte, verdeeld over vijf verdiepingen, is exclusief voor kunst bestemd. Hier brengen wisselende tentoonstellingen en de collectie, die ontstond uit de fusie van het kantonnale kunstmuseum (MASI) en het museum voor moderne kunst van de stad Lugano, de inborst van de Ticinesi voor het voetlicht. Even trots is men op de theater- en concertzaal met een mobiele akoestische schelp en de verzinkbare orkestbak. Bezoekers krijgen hier een veelzijdig inkijkje in de culturele creaties van de regio. Maar niet alleen: het cultuurcentrum is ook een sociale ontmoetingsplaats, dankzij snackbar Gabbani. Gabbani is sinds 1937 een culinair instituut van de stad en verwent de smaakpapillen met knapperige focaccia, heerlijke salami en aromatische kazen.
