1870至1871年德法戰爭，是當時公眾關注和宣洩情緒的重要議題。報紙進行相關報導，畫家運用圖畫描繪事件。 1871年冬天，布爾巴基將軍的法國東部部隊穿越國界，進入瑞士。琉森的布爾巴基全景壁畫是對當年事件的人文寫照以及對戰爭的批判。

這幅一百一十二米長、十米寬的畫作，是保存完整的十九世紀巨幅全景畫之一。繪製全景畫的畫家─愛德阿德•卡斯卓斯(Edouard Castres)作為紅十字志願者，親歷了這場戰爭。博物館(緊鄰冰川公園Glacier Garden)向參觀者傳達有關戰爭、布爾巴基軍隊的信念，以及全景畫繪製的知識。
