Jegenstorf Castle
概覽
簡介
In the heart of Switzerland, just a stone’s throw from the capital Bern and set amid a paradisiacal park, lies Baroque Castle Jegenstorf. Inside, the former Bernese patrician country estate boasts all kinds of treasures and gems, with tales to take visitors of all ages on a magical journey back in time.
Albrecht Friedrich von Erlach had the old castle converted into an elegant summer residence in the French Baroque style in 1720. Jegenstorf Castle has been open to the public since 1936. At the end of the Second World War, it served as the command post for General Guisan and, in 1954, the imperial residence for Haile Selassie, the Ethiopian state guest.
The interior features an impressive wealth of finest-quality Baroque, Rococo and Classical-period furnishings. Special mention should be made of the largest exhibition of Swiss tiled stoves from the 18th century, invaluable pieces of furniture from the marquetry workshops of celebrated cabinetmakers and the most extensive collection of Bernese portraits.
A range of walks are possible in the extensive parklands surrounding the castle. Discover the Baroque carp pond, orangery, the oldest plane trees in the canton, ProSpecieRara apple orchard and the historic bathhouse that is today home to the Castle Café.
