Monument of national importance and designated a UNESCO-designated historic restaurant. The workplace of Emmental writer Jeremias Gotthelf, the buildings, which date back to 1752 (the inn), 1806 (the “Kreuz” guesthouse) and 1744 (the fully restored seminar suite, a protected structure) are full of history, hospitality and haute cuisine.

Historic Restaurant of the Year 2000 The origins of the Gasthof Bären in Dürrenroth, Berne date back to the year 1752. The building, which is on the former thoroughfare to Huttwill, is the embodiment of late Baroque style. It features a timber frame faced with tiny wooden shingles and is painted in an olive green reminiscent of stonework.
